Image
By Jonathan Phiri  National Council for Higher Education in Malawi (NCHE) has disproved the use of honorary doctorate and honorary professorship by certain individuals in Malawi. It has been known through a statement signed by NCHE chairperson DR. Estone Yobe Sambo which stated that honorary degrees are given to people who have outstanding contribution to specific society and not necessarily through academic achievements.  The statement further prohibited recipients of honorary degrees and the public to address such individuals as Doctors or Professor.  However honorary degrees shall be awarded to individuals by accredited higher institution which are recognized by the council.
