MUTHARIKA RELOCATE GOVERNMENT INSTITUTIONS
President Peter Mutharika has declared that some of the key government institutions should relocate to the southern region from Lilongwe, to Blantyre and Zomba.
The institutions that has been ordered to move to Blantyre include the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA), the Malawi Housing Corporation (MHC), and the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC).
The Malawi Prison Service (MPS) headquarters will move to Zomba.
In a statement issued on 13 October 2025 President Mutharika said that the decision was made to ensure effective governance.
He also ordered that the relocation should be effective immediately and must be done within three months.
